DELHI: Along the Pernem-Canacona railway line, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has suggested to the Centre that rapid trains be introduced. On Tuesday, Sawant met with Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, Electronics, and Information Technology, in New Delhi to discuss rail infrastructure. He spoke with Vaishnaw about important projects meant to improve Goa’s railway operations.
The topics of discussion included improving the Maem railway station, adding fast trains to the Pernem-Canacona rail line, and increasing the number of services. Sawant also outlined plans for other important infrastructure projects, including the modernisation of Margao railway station using the public-private partnership approach. The Chief Minister has declared that within the next two to three years, Goa will have intercity express trains, such as the Vande Bharat, that will connect Canacona and Pernem on the Konkan railway route.
