PANAJI: Defecting MLAs have no prospect of receiving any Diwali gifts as Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday ruled out a temporary cabinet reshuffle.
When asked when he will reorganize the cabinets, Sawant nodded no.
Before the May 10 Karnataka Assembly elections, Sawant had previously intimated that he might rearrange the government in order to induct some of the eight former Congress MLAs who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in September of the previous year.
However, there is still a lot of uncertainty in the State about what would happen to the eight rebellious Congress lawmakers who joined the BJP.
To demonstrate his commitment to the Women’s Reservation Bill, the Opposition has already asked that the Chief Minister appoint three female legislators to his 12-member male-dominated cabinet.
Speculation in the political circles of Goa that a reshuffle in the cabinet will take place to accommodate 3 MLAs among eight who had joined the BJP, has still not come into reality.
On September 14, former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo, Kedar Naik, Sankalp Amonkar, Rajesh Faldesai, Aleixo Sequeira and Rudolf Fernandes joined the BJP, reducing Congress to 3 MLAs in the 40-member Assembly.
