PANAJI: The Central leadership is presently preoccupied with the establishment of the Maharashtra government formation, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, ruling out a reshuffle of the State’s Cabinet.
Sawant’s unexpected trip to New Delhi has sparked long-running rumors of a potential Cabinet upheaval. “There is nothing political about my coming. “Everyone here is occupied with the formation of the Maharashtra government,” he remarked.
Since the past few months, there have been a lot of rumors in the state about a cabinet reshuffle to make room for Congress defectors and Goa Legislative Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar. Following Narendra Modi’s third swearing-in as prime minister, there were also rumors that a cabinet overhaul might occur.
Later, the dateline was moved to after Diwali and then after the Ganesh festival.
Then-PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral quit to make room for Congress defector Aleixo Sequeira, who was sworn in as a minister in November of last year. Since then, there have been several rumors of a Cabinet overhaul to make room for additional Congress defectors, including MLA Michael Lobo, MLA Sankalp Amonkar, and former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
Six additional defectors have been granted important positions in various corporations by the BJP government, aside from Kamat and Lobo. Sankalp Amonkar, however, has not assumed responsibility for his role and is vying for a Cabinet seat.
