PANAJI: Goa has completed the first phase of Census 2027, with the month-long door-to-door survey covering Digital Layout Mapping (DLM) and Houselisting Operations (HLO) officially concluding on May 15.
Following the completion of the exercise, authorities have stopped accepting fresh household entries through the Houselisting Operation application.
The statewide survey began on April 16 and was carried out by 3,086 enumerators comprising teachers and government personnel, who visited homes across urban and rural areas to collect household-related information.
During the first phase, officials gathered detailed data relating to residential structures and living conditions. This included information on building identification numbers, materials used for flooring, walls and roofing, the purpose and condition of houses, ownership details, room count, and the number of regular occupants residing in each household.
Enumerators also documented particulars of household heads, including their names, gender, and social classification such as Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST). Details regarding married couples within households were also recorded.
The survey additionally collected information about access to essential services and facilities, including drinking water supply, electricity, sanitation, wastewater disposal systems, kitchens, bathing areas, and cooking fuel sources like LPG and PNG.
According to the 2011 Census, Goa had 3,43,611 households, including 1,24,674 in rural regions.
However, projections in the Goa Economic Survey 2024-25 indicate that the State’s population has risen to nearly 15.96 lakh, compared to 14.5 lakh recorded in 2011. Estimates also suggest that the number of households in Goa may now have exceeded five lakh.
The second phase of Census 2027, involving Population Enumeration, is scheduled between February 9 and February 28 next year. The final census figures are expected to be published on March 1, 2027.
