PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today said the role of Physical Education (PE) teachers has evolved beyond conducting physical training, stressing that they should possess knowledge of multiple sports to identify and develop the sporting talent of students.
Speaking at the inauguration of the three-day Applied Sports Science Workshop, the Chief Minister said PE teachers should be capable of recognising a student’s strengths and guiding them towards the sport best suited to their abilities.
“The time when PT teachers only conducted physical training is over. Today, they must identify students’ talents and train them in the sport they are best at. Every Physical Education teacher should have knowledge of different sports,” he said.
Dr. Sawant also underlined the growing importance of sports science in athlete development, saying that nutrition, physiotherapy, sports medicine and scientific training play a crucial role in producing better sportspersons.
He encouraged coaches and Physical Education teachers to continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills, expressing hope that participants of the workshop would emerge as master trainers capable of strengthening sports development across the state.
The three-day Applied Sports Science Workshop aims to equip coaches and PE teachers with the latest scientific approaches to athlete training and performance enhancement.
