PANAJI: The Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), created by the bifurcation of the Directorate of Social Welfare, to deal with all the matters related to persons with disabilities is set to commence operations in Goa starting April 1, 2024.
It will serve as a pivotal entity in ensuring the implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPwD Act). As part of this transition, all ongoing schemes pertaining to persons with disabilities will be seamlessly transferred to DEPwD except for the Dayanand Social Security Scheme (PwD) and Special Schools.
The new department is conveniently located at BUILDING ‘B’ NEW MARKET COMPLEX, 3RD FLOOR, PORVORIM – GOA 403501. The Department has implemented measures to enhance accessibility, including establishing a facilitation counter on the ground level and offering amenities such as a wheelchair-accessible ramp, lift, toilet, and wheelchairs.
