PANAJI: The Goa Foundation has objected to the State government’s request for an additional year to resolve the forest right claims of Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary residents in the Bombay High Court at Goa.
Goa Foundation has opposed the plea of the State government in the Bombay High Court at Goa, seeking extension of one more year for settling forest right claims of Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary dwellers.
A miscellaneous civil application filed by the NGO against the State government for failing to notify the Tiger Reserve is being heard by the Court.
On July 24, 2023, the High Court ordered the government to settle the rights of forest dwellers by July 24, 2024 and also instructed the government to notify Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary and surrounding protected areas as a Tiger Reserve within three months.
In the previous hearing, the State government informed the Court that it had established eight additional anti-poaching camps at strategic locations with forest guards, watchers, and other staff in the Wildlife Sanctuary and National Parks.
