PANAJI: The Government of Goa has announced new regulatory measures for sewage and treated water tankers operating in the state. In a notification issued on May 20, 2025, by the Department of Finance (Debt Management Division), it has been made mandatory for all such tankers to register with the Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Ltd., upon payment of a one-time registration fee of ₹5,000. The directive also outlines strict guidelines on vehicle color coding for identification and compliance purposes.
According to the notification, sewage tankers are required to be painted in mustard yellow and must have the words “SEWAGE TANKER” clearly displayed on both sides and the front of the vehicle. Similarly, tankers transporting treated sewage water for non-potable use must be painted green and labeled as “TREATED SEWAGE TANKER” in the same manner.
The deadline for compliance has been set for June 21, 2025. After this date, tankers that fail to meet the registration and color-coding requirements will be denied entry into Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) across the state.
The move is aimed at improving regulation, ensuring better tracking of tanker operations, and enhancing environmental safety and accountability. The order, issued in the name of the Governor of Goa, was signed by Dr. Pranab G. Bhat, Under Secretary, Finance (Budget-II), and applies to all existing and new operators in the sector.
