PANAJI: The Goa government has set aside a sizable area of land as a reserved forest for compensatory afforestation in an effort to lessen the effects on the environment. 17.2228 hectares (172,228 square meters) of land in Sangod, Dharbandora, have been designated as reserved forest area by the Department of Forests, says a Goa govt gazette notification.
By making this choice, 78.297 hectares of land will not be diverted in order to build the Tamnar transmission line project. Sangod Village in Dharbandora Taluka’s Survey Nos. 21/1, 22/1, and 24/1-A comprise the recently declared reserved forest area.
According to the notification, 1.72 lakh square meters will be planted with compensatory afforestation to make up for the 78.297 hectares of land that were diverted. The building of the 400 KV D/C Xeldem to Mapusa Transmission Line and the 220 KV HTLS D/C Transmission Line from Xeldem to Xeldem (Existing) require this land diversion.
M/s Goa Tamnar Transmission Project Ltd is carrying out the project, and the goal of the compensatory afforestation measure is to lessen the impact on the environment.
The Tamnar Project…
The project entails the laying of 240 km of transmission lines and one high-power sub-station aiming to strengthen the current grid network. It comprises 5 elements that are related but functionally independent. These together constitute the scheme for “Additional 400 kV Feed to Goa and Additional System for Power Evacuation from generation Projects Pooled at Raigarh (Tamnar) Pool”.
400/220kV substation at village Dharbandora in Goa
400kV D/c Xeldem-Mapusa-Narendra Transmission Line In Line Out (LILO) Line (spans across Goa and Karnataka)
765kV D/c Dharamjaigarh -Tamnar transmission Line (Chhattisgarh)
400kV D/c Xeldem-Mapusa Transmission Line (Goa)
220 kV Xeldem-Xeldem Transmission Line (Goa)
In 2015, the Ministry of Power, envisaged the Goa Tamnar Transmission Project Limited (GTTPL) to create an additional source of power for Goa. Subsequently, the decision to provide a new 400 kV substation in South Goa along with its interconnections with the Inter State Transmission System was discussed and approved in the various meetings convened by the Standing Committee on Power System Planning and Standing committees of Western Region and Southern Region in 2016.
This project is spread across the state of Goa, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh and passes through the heavy dense forest of the Western Ghats in Goa & Karnataka. Our robust surveying methods ensure that the above challenges are kept to a minimal. Multiple teams are working with different stakeholders to get timely permissions pertaining to ROW.
