CALANGUTE: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has demanded harsh action against anybody seeking to damage Goa’s reputation in response to a social media post that targeted the state.
We never made a comparison between Goa and other tourist locations with distinct tourism industries, such as Bali, Thailand, or Sri Lanka. Both Indian and foreign visitors have frequently commended Goa as a welcoming and pleasant location, and we advertise our culture and festivities there,” Lobo said.
Additionally, he criticized the author of the post who used a negative term to describe Goa, calling such comments “completely unacceptable.”
Lobo emphasized the value of protecting Goa’s reputation while admitting that there might be some issues that need to be addressed.
“Those who want to disparage our state ought to face harsh consequences. He went on to say that the tourism department ought to lodge a complaint against those who make such derogatory statements.
Additionally, Lobo disclosed his intention to urge the Directorate of Tourism to take action against the defamation in a letter. “Some people are using social media to disparage Goa for their personal gain by promoting other travel destinations,” he remarked.
Lobo emphasized the need for vigilance to maintain Goa’s image while arguing for fixing issues facing the tourism industry. He also urged authorities to question people who are disseminating negative information about the state.
“As a long time MLA who has a hold over 3-4 constituencies in the North tourism belt, Michael Lobo needs to analyse the correct reasons for the gradual decline in Goa’s Tourism and suggest solutions that enhance the visitor experience, as also of locals who visit such places. Earlier, he sided with the taxi unions, which have also contributed to Goa’s tourism challenges,” said Lobo
He said that Enhancing tourism spots, improving infrastructure, preserving natural beauty and heritage and keeping prices reasonable could make Goa a more enjoyable destination. Positive actions will drive results—threatening remarks will not.
