PANAJI: With rise in number of accidents across the state, the Transport Department has instructed its all Assistant Directors of Transport (ADTs) to carry out comprehensive inspections of transport vehicles, with particular attention to ‘Rent-a-Cab’ transport vehicles, to ensure the installation and functionality of speed governors is in compliance with the aforementioned Rule.
“ADTs are instructed to carry out comprehensive inspections of transport vehicles, with particular attention to ‘Rent-a-Cab’ transport vehicles, to ensure the installation and functionality of speed governors is in compliance with the aforementioned Rule,” the order states.
It further states that Rule 118 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 mandates that every transport vehicle shall be equipped or fitted with a ‘speed governor having maximum pre-set speeds for different categories as specified in the Rule, conforming to the Standard AIS 018/2001, as amended from time to time.
Additionally, Department has instructed the ADTs to verify the presence and operation of speed governors during the renewal or issuance of fitness certificates for transport vehicles.
“ADTs are required to submit an action taken report on or before 11th March 2023 which shall be reviewed on 12th March 2024. The time and venue the review meeting shall be communicated subsequently,” it said.
Meanwhile, Transport department has said that Non-compliance and shortfall in inspections shall be viewed seriously.
