PANAJI: Minister for River Navigation Subhash Phal Desai said that Government has in Principle approved for indroduction of Ro-Ro ferries in Goa.
AAP MLA Cruz Silva tabled a question regarding the state government’s plans to replace the traditional ferry boats.
“Government has in Principle approved for indroduction of Ro-Ro ferries in Goa. Two officials along with two legislative members and Minister for RND had visited Kerala to see the operations of Ro-Ro ferries in November 2022,’ said Phaldesai.
He further said that the River Navigation Department has incurred an expenditure of Rs. 39,871/- on the said tour.
“After the study Government has decided to introduce Ro-Ro ferries in the State,” he added.
Phal Desai said that his department plans to introduce Ro-Ro ferry boats, which will have two ramps and planks on both sides.
Several islands in the coastal are connected to the mainstream through traditional ferry boat service, which has been operational since the Portuguese era.
