PANAJI: The Bombay High Court at Goa has granted the Director General of Police (DGP) three weeks to submit an additional affidavit detailing the action taken against illegal dhiriyos in the state.
The direction came during the hearing of a contempt petition concerning alleged failure to comply with an earlier undertaking given to the court regarding illegal bullfighting events.
The government informed the court that the police department had already filed an initial response. However, subsequent developments warranted placing updated information before the court through a further affidavit by the DGP.
The government advocate submitted that police have registered several FIRs against organisers allegedly involved in illegal bullfighting. The court was also informed that convictions have been secured in some of these cases.
The DGP now intends to place details of the FIRs, convictions and other measures on record to demonstrate the steps taken following the earlier undertaking and to present the latest compliance position before the court.
After considering the submissions, the High Court allowed the DGP three weeks to file the additional reply.
The matter has been posted for further hearing on September 16, when the court is expected to consider the updated action taken report and the compliance position concerning illegal dhiriyos in Goa.
