PANAJI: The Goa government has proposed to permit water sports activity during the monsoon months in certain rivers including Sal, Chapora, Zuari, Dona Paula Bay, Mandovi, Nerul and Sanquerim.
“Captain of Ports hereby proposes to permit water sports activity, confined to inland waters only and during fair weather of the monsoon…The areas identified for these activities in the monsoon are river Sal, river Chapora, river Zuari, Dona Paula bay, river Mandovi (at Diwar island away from main navigable channel), Nerul river and Sanquerim river,” a recent gazette notification stated.
The notification stated that the people concerned may send their objections and suggestions regarding the proposal to the Captain of Ports and Joint Secretary to the Government of Goa, Captain of Ports Department, before the expiry of five days from the date of publication of the notification.
The notification mentioned certain terms and conditions for operating water sports activity, including a valid operator’s licence and insurance.
“Activities of water sports in monsoon should be in sheltered inland waters only. The water sports activities are permitted only between 9 am to 6 pm. All water sports activities should be stopped immediately in the wake of any adverse weather condition or any weather intimation from the Captain of Ports Department or IMD,” it added.
