PANAJI: The State government chose to change its focus on Friday and approved the Chief Justice’s initial draft rules after the Supreme Court slapped them on the knuckles for announcing service rules for High Court employees in the Chief Justice’s name that were very different from what the CJ had submitted. Before the hearing in the SC next week, these will be released soon.
Devidas Pangam, the advocate general, stated: “We previously stated in the High Court that the government would re-fix salaries and reimburse arrears to High Court personnel within a year. Several additional former High Court employees have now petitioned the Supreme Court.
Aleixo Sequeira, the law minister, stated, “I am not aware of the matter because it did not occur during my mandate.
The compensation rates for high court workers will increase after the updated service regulations take effect. The current dispute began when the government first announced the regulations without raising wages.
In March 2023, retired high court employees petitioned the Supreme Court for a pension and other benefits they believed they were denied because the government had not revised their compensation.
According to sources, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Chief Justice of the High Court met in January of this year and decided to resolve the differences without incurring any costs. The guidelines were then published on May 20, 2024.
