PANAJI: Amidst rising concern over depleting dam water, the State government today set aside all apprehensions over water shortage stating that there is enough water in all the seven dams to meet the daily requirements for the coming two months.
The water stock in three out of a total of seven dams in Goa had dipped below the 50 per cent-mark, indicating that the situation may become difficult during the ongoing summer season.
Addressing a press conference, WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar said that there is nothing to worry about as far as water storage is concerned as the State dams have required water to meet the demand till mid-June.
“As of today, the situation is very much satisfactory. There is nothing to worry about till mid-June as we have enough water in our dams” Shirodkar said.
He said that the Selaulim dam, which supplies water to the entire South Goa has around 11,785 ha meters of water, which is enough to meet the requirements for another 130 days.
Also, the Tillari dam has got water storage to fulfil the demand for 144 days, he said adding that the dam has got 12,566 ha meters of water.
He said that water in Chapoli dam can sustain for another 450 days while in Amthane dam, being a pumping station, the water level varies.
“The only concern is about Anjunem dam, which has got water storage for another 70 days. But if we receive some rain in these two months, we would be in a comfortable situation,” he said.
