PANAJI: Goa Police has reported a significant improvement in cyber fraud recovery and financial transaction freezing systems during the first four months of 2026, despite an increase in complaints related to online financial crimes.
According to data from the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the 1930 cyber fraud helpline, the number of cyber fraud complaints registered in Goa rose from 1,100 between January and April 2025 to 1,354 during the same period this year. Police officials said the rise reflects improved awareness among the public and easier access to reporting mechanisms rather than a spike in cybercrime incidents.
Officials attributed the progress in recovery measures to the introduction of an upgraded cloud-based 1930 Cyber Fraud Call Centre and the posting of Goa Police personnel at the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre in New Delhi. These measures have enabled quicker coordination with banks and faster freezing of suspicious transactions.
Despite the higher number of complaints, the overall financial losses reported in cyber fraud cases declined considerably. The amount lost to online fraud dropped from Rs 28.43 crore in the first four months of 2025 to Rs 23.50 crore during the corresponding period in 2026.
Police records further showed a notable increase in the value of funds frozen or placed under lien before they could be withdrawn. The amount secured by authorities rose from Rs 3.81 crore between January and April 2025 to Rs 4.99 crore during the same period this year. The lien percentage also improved from 13.40 per cent to 21.23 per cent.
Goa Police stated that the State’s cyber fraud recovery efficiency has now touched 22.22 per cent, placing Goa among the better-performing States in the country in terms of cyber fraud response and financial recovery.
During the entire 2025 period, Goa Police handled 4,812 cyber fraud complaints and secured bank liens worth Rs 22.83 crore, achieving an overall recovery efficiency of 18.95 per cent. In the first four months of 2026 alone, police processed 1,808 complaints involving transactions valued at Rs 31.63 crore and managed to freeze Rs 7.03 crore through rapid intervention efforts.
