PANAJI: The High Court of Bombay at Goa issued an order prohibiting land sales or construction on more than 2 lakh square meters of land under Anjuna Communidade.
This land is suspected of being appropriated by land grabers through the manipulation of old Portuguese documents. The order is valid until the next hearing date.
According to AG Devidas Pangam, two properties under Anjuna Communidade—one measuring more than 2 lakh square meters and the other roughly 32,000—may have been taken using the same techniques as the Goa land-grabbing scam.
An affidavit to this effect has been submitted to the Court by the Communidade administration.
According to reports, land grabpers have faked old Portuguese documents in order to have grant of land and sale deeds prepared.
These documents are then allegedly being used to transfer land in accordance with the new law under the names of third parties without the community’s knowledge.
AG informed that construction and other licenses are also being obtained using these sale deeds. The case has been scheduled for additional hearing following the court’s Diwali vacation.
