PANAJI/BOGMALO: Goa marked International Coastal Cleanup Day with beach cleanliness drives held across the state, with a major initiative covering 25 beaches to promote a cleaner and greener coastline.
Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho led a beach cleanliness drive at Bogmalo Beach. The initiative was organised by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in collaboration with local administration bodies, the Lions Club and the Vibrant Goa Foundation.
Governor of Goa Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju also participated in a beach cleanup drive at Miramar Beach as part of the statewide observance. The event at Miramar was organised by the Indian Coast Guard in association with the Lions Club and Vibrant Goa.
DIG and Coast Guard District Commander Goa Manoj Bhatia, Director of CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography Sunil Kumar Singh and other officials and participants joined the cleanup activities.
The drives focused on removing waste and marine debris from the beaches while encouraging greater public participation in keeping Goa’s coastline clean and protecting the coastal environment. Goa has a coastline of about 105 km, according to the state government.
