PANAJI: Calangute MLA Michael Lobo today alleged that cab aggregator drivers without badges are protected. Lobo also said that he will raise the issue in the upcoming Assembly session.
Michael Lobo, and Kedar Naik along with taxi operators met the Chief Minister over their issues of GoaMiles drivers taking away their business.
“CM has assured a solution to this issue. Someone is protecting these cab aggregator drivers who don’t even have a badge. Will bring up the issue in the upcoming assembly,” said Lobo.
Lobo said that he informed CM that Goa Miles taxi drivers are working at a number of resorts and hotels in Calangute, Candolim, Arpora-Nagoa, and the coastal region of North Goa, where local taxi companies use a queue system, according to Lobo.
“Local taxi drivers and owners are being deprived of their legitimate business due to this practice. Local drivers frequently call the police and file false assault complaints against local taxi operators when they ask Goa Miles drivers to adhere to the queue system,” he added.
Lobo said that this has created unnecessary tension and conflict. We have also requested the SP’s intervention to resolve this issue and ensure a fair and harmonious working environment for all parties involved.
“We await a timely and positive resolution to this matter,” he added.
Taxi operator Bappa Korgaonkar said local taxi owners/drivers of the coastal belt are attached to hotels in their respective areas and they follow up the queue system in regard to picking up the passengers from the hotel.
