PORVORIM: The Goa Government has officially created a separate Department of AYUSH by amending the Business of the Government of Goa (Allocation) Rules, 1987.
The notification, issued by the General Administration Department, introduces the Business of the Government of Goa (Allocation) (Fifty-seventh Amendment) Rules, 2026, which came into effect upon publication in the Official Gazette.
As per the amendment, the newly formed Department of AYUSH will be responsible for implementation of the National AYUSH Mission and other central schemes, along with administration and development of AYUSH hospitals and dispensaries across the state.
The department will also oversee AYUSH Integrated Hospitals at Velguem and Monti Hill in Margao, and manage the development and monitoring of AYUSH wellness centres.
In addition, it will focus on promoting Yoga, Naturopathy and Panchakarma therapies, and handle matters related to the Goa Homoeopathy Council and the Goa Council of Ayurvedic and Other Allied Indian Systems of Medicine.
The mandate further includes promotion of AYUSH education, research and training, as well as boosting medical and wellness tourism based on traditional systems of medicine.
The notification was issued by Under Secretary (GA-II) Shweta R. Harmalkar by order and in the name of the Governor of Goa.
