MARGAO: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has announced a series of healthcare initiatives aimed at strengthening hospital infrastructure, expanding nursing education and improving access to medical consultations through digital services.
The government will upgrade the existing infrastructure at the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) to facilitate patient testing and improve healthcare facilities. Sawant also announced plans to start a nursing college at the Old Hospicio Hospital following renovation, a move aimed at expanding nursing education infrastructure in the state.
In another significant announcement, the state is set to launch telemedicine services soon, allowing patients to submit their prescriptions online and receive responses from doctors without having to visit hospitals.
The initiative is expected to provide patients with a more convenient way to seek medical advice, particularly for consultations that do not require a physical examination.
Sawant said online OPD services at Goa Medical College (GMC) have received around one lakh bookings, indicating substantial use of the digital consultation facility.
The proposed telemedicine service is expected to further strengthen the state’s digital healthcare delivery system by making medical consultations more accessible.
The planned hospital upgrades and nursing college are also intended to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and support the development of the medical workforce.
