CANACONA: Canacona Police have detained two Tamil Nadu registration vehicles along with Bore-Wells Drilling equipment while drilling a Bore-well at Polem in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to sources, Polem locals were disturbed in their deep sleep by a huge sound and continuous barking of dogs in their vicinity on Monday-Tuesday night. When a few came out past 2 am, they found a Bore-Well is being drilled in a nearby field of Polem beachside, after which the residents objected to this unearthly hours activity and informed the police.
Police reportedly came and, after making enquiries about the availability of necessary permissions, detained two vehicles bearing registration numbers – TN34 AB 6799 and TN34 AB-6899 belonging to SSK Company for their involvement in illegally drilling a bore-well.
Canacona police sources confirmed the detention of the two vehicles with Tamil Nadu registration equipped with bore wells drilling equipment acting on the local’s complaint.
Later in the evening, some officials from the Canacona WRD (Water Resources Department) visited the site and carried out inspection.
When contacted, WRD sources informed no application was received, nor was any permission granted to drill the borewell, objected to by the locals. ‘
The Canacona office has received a complaint from Polem locals for drilling the bore-well in their vicinity, and this office is investigating the same’. The WRD source further informed WRD permission is a must under the Ground Act for an Open Well, Borewell for domestic, commercial or agriculture/irrigation purposes. ‘Even the existing 100s of years old open Wells (no permission was required that time), particularly House-Wells if any, need to apply and obtain the WRD permissions/registrations, which are then required to renew every five years. The registration of these Wells also helps in getting any financial assistance under the various government schemes for its maintenance and repairs, etc., added the WRD source.
