PANAJI: The Goa Police have ordered a preliminary inquiry into allegations that police personnel attached to Collem Police Station were illegally collecting money from motorists near the Mollem check post after videos of an alleged sting operation surfaced on social media.
According to a press release issued by the South Goa Police, the department has taken serious note of the incident. The Superintendent of Police, South Goa, has directed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Ponda, to conduct a preliminary inquiry and submit a report within two days.
The police stated that necessary departmental action will be initiated against any erring personnel of Collem Police Station based on the findings of the inquiry.
The inquiry follows the circulation of videos on June 12 alleging that motorists were stopped and cash was collected without the issuance of official challans or receipts. The authenticity of the videos and the allegations has not yet been officially established.
The outcome of the preliminary inquiry will determine the further course of action by the Goa Police.
