PANAJI: The Go government released its Draft Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy for public consultation, marking a major step under its Goa AI Mission 2027 aimed at positioning the state as a global hub for high-tech innovation.
The policy was launched by IT Minister Rohan Khaunte in Panaji and has been developed in just 50 days—well within the government’s 100-day commitment. It has been prepared following consultations with industry, academia, and key stakeholders.
The draft policy will be open for public feedback for 15 days starting May 4 and will be available on the State Portal, Goa Online, and the Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C) website. Students, entrepreneurs, experts, and citizens have been invited to share their suggestions.
Speaking at the launch, IT Minister Rohan Khaunte said, “This policy reflects our vision to make Goa a leader in emerging technologies while ensuring that AI adoption is responsible, inclusive, and focused on creating opportunities. Our emphasis is on skilling and job creation, not job displacement.”
The policy outlines a roadmap for AI adoption across sectors including finance, media, and governance, with key focus areas such as AI skilling and human capital development, startup and innovation ecosystems, government and public services, and the creation of robust AI infrastructure, including compute and data systems.
It also places strong emphasis on research, academic collaboration, and international partnerships, while highlighting the importance of responsible, safe, and ethical AI development. The framework includes a focus on Large Language Model (LLM) development, governance, safety, and accountability.
