PANAJI: Four official resignations, citing personal reasons, dealt a serious blow to the Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa.
Rupesh Velip, Rama Kankonkar, Soiru Velip, and Dr. Satyawan Gaonkar are among those who left the company. Mission president Adv Joao Fernandes and two other members of the Goa delegation met with the union home minister in Delhi, but they were unable to persuade the Center to issue an ordinance reserving seats for the ST communities in the Goa Legislative Assembly. This infuriated the four leaders.
President of Mission Political Reservation for STs of Goa, Adv Joao Fernandes, made the following statement during a press conference: “Their resignations have been accepted and they are now no longer connected with the Mission.”
“The mission will stay neutral and will continue its activities to achieve its objective once the next government is formed at Center,” stated Adv. Fernandes on Wednesday.
Rupesh Velip, the former Secretary of the Mission, later stated in an interview with the media that he resigned because he did not support granting political mileage to any political party.
“I was asked to leave the Mission by some people. He declared, “The way the BJP has betrayed us after instilling hope in us will be taught a lesson.”
When asked if they were considering running candidates in the next Lok Sabha elections, Velip responded, “There have been discussions and a number of suggestions from the public on the matter.” We’ll make one last decision. We have every ST group and individual with us. We called for a boycott of the elections earlier, and now we claim to be impartial. It’s incorrect.
