DABOLIM: With road accidents continuing to remain a major concern in Goa, the state government has decided to introduce AI-powered traffic surveillance cameras across key locations within the next three months.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said the technology-driven system will automatically detect traffic violations and issue fines directly, eliminating manual interference in enforcement.
He said the move is expected to create greater accountability among motorists, as drivers and riders would be compelled to slow down and follow traffic regulations once violations are monitored digitally in real time.
According to the minister, the AI-based enforcement mechanism is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing accidents, improving road safety and ensuring stricter compliance with traffic rules across the state.
Godinho further stated that revenue collected through fines would be redirected towards road safety initiatives and infrastructure measures.
Apart from the traffic enforcement initiative, the minister also announced that 544 Housing Board tenements are slated to be regularised soon, bringing relief to numerous residents awaiting legal recognition of their homes.
