MARGAO: Goa Badminton Association will host the 45th Indian Masters National Badminton championships 2022-2023 in Goa from 19th to 26th March 2023 at Manohar Parrikar Indoor stadium, Navelim, Goa. This is a prestigious selection championship to select the best players to represent India in the BWF World Senior Badminton Championships 2023, to be held in South Korea later in the year.
The championship is being organised under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India and in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa. We express our gratitude to the Government of Goa, the Sports Authority of Goa, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Directorate of Health Services, the Margao Municipal Council, and other government agencies for extending their support to the championship.
Over 2270 entries across 45 events from age categories of 35+ to 75+ have been received for the event, where players born in the year 1987 and earlier are eligible. Goa’s Sandhya Melasheemi, Ashutosh Pednekar, Dr Satish Kudchadkar, Manjiri Moktali, Sandip Kanji, Kamlesh Kanji, Amit Kakkar, Vishal Vernekar, and Pankaj Naik are some of the top Goa players who will be strong contenders for medals.
The championship will take place after 3 years since the 44th Indian Masters Nationals were held in 2020 in Jaipur. Two years were lost due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Goa hosted the 43rd edition in 2019.
The Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium at Navelm will be the main venue for the championships, while there will be one additional venue, i.e., the Multipurpose stadium at Fatorda, which will be used additionally during the qualification rounds due to a large number of entries.
North Goa District Badminton Association and an Organising Team comprising of South Goa members will join hands with the Goa Badminton Association in organising this mammoth event. The event has been budgeted at Rs 40 lakhs. Finals will be telecast on Goa Doordarshan and will be live-streamed on other networks also.
