PANAJI: The Goa government is set to strengthen home-based palliative care by bringing the service under the State Care initiative, with a focus on improving access to essential healthcare facilities and providing greater support to patients and their families.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said ongoing home visits to patients requiring critical and palliative care have helped healthcare teams understand their needs and the challenges faced by family members caring for them.
A detailed review meeting was convened to assess the feedback received during these visits and identify measures to strengthen home-based palliative care services.
As part of the initiative, the government aims to improve access to essential facilities and support systems, while reducing the physical, emotional and practical burden on patients and their caregivers.
Emphasising the importance of compassionate healthcare, Rane said every patient deserves dignity, comfort and quality care in the familiar surroundings of their own home.
The initiative is expected to reinforce the state’s focus on patient-centred healthcare by extending support beyond hospitals and bringing essential care closer to those who need it most.
