PANAJI: Goa Tourism and the Aguad Port & Jail Complex have partnered to promote heritage tourism during the monsoon, encouraging visitors to experience Goa beyond its beaches by exploring its rich history, architecture and cultural legacy.
The initiative, which runs until September 30, forms part of Goa Tourism’s broader monsoon tourism campaign in collaboration with tourism stakeholders across the state. It aims to showcase the iconic Aguad Port & Jail Complex at Sinquerim, where the rain-soaked landscape offers a unique perspective of the historic landmark overlooking the Arabian Sea.
As part of the campaign, the Aguad Port & Jail Complex has introduced a range of heritage-focused experiences, including guided heritage walks led by expert storytellers, access to the Aguad Interactive Museum, and curated experiences that combine heritage exploration with the site’s hospitality offerings.
Speaking on the initiative, Savio Mathias, Vice President, Operations and Business Development, Aguad Port & Jail Complex, said the monsoon transforms the character of Aguad, with its fortifications, sea and surrounding landscape offering visitors a unique experience.
He said the collaboration with Goa Tourism aims to encourage both tourists and local residents to rediscover Goa’s heritage and appreciate the stories that have shaped the iconic landmark for more than four centuries.
The restored heritage complex is open daily from 10 am to 8 pm and has evolved into a cultural destination featuring museums, heritage attractions and dining experiences. During the monsoon, the lush surroundings and rain-washed fortifications provide visitors with an immersive heritage experience.
Visitors are advised to plan their visit in advance, especially for guided heritage walks and weekend visits. The last heritage walk of the day begins at 6 pm.
