CANACONA: A traffic constable died, and four others were grievously injured in a mishap between a Swift –Car and an Insulator (fish vehicle) at Shelli in Loliem-Polem village (Canacona) in the early wee hours of Monday.
Police Constable Rakesh Virnodkar (Resident of Siolim) expired in the casualty of GMC, Bambolim, whereas the other four Kalidas Shetye(r/o Agarwada-Pernem), HC Krishna Palyekar (r/o Palyem-Pernem), PC-6961 Pritesh Mandrekar (Harbol-Pernem) and HG(Home Guard)-Rajesh Patekar (Mandrem-Pernem).
All were the natives/residents of Pernem taluka, were posted at Anjuna traffic Cell and were returning from a pilgrimage and had entered Goa via Polem border, when their Swift Car GA-11 A-1805 was involved in a head-on collision with an oncoming Insulator (Fish-Contained) bearing registration no.MH-08 W-8170 at Shelli in Loliem-Polem Village at about 3 am.
According to Canaocna Police, Kalidas Shetye was driving the Swift Car when the mishap occurred.
All the five injured, four of them in grievous condition, were brought to CHC and immediately shifted to District Hospital Margao, and keeping one (declared out of danger), four were shifted to GMC in precarious conditions. Rakesh Virnodkar, however, breathed his last at the Casualty of GMC.
