VASCO: Pathetic conditions of the Kadamba transport corporation Ltd buses has been highlighted by a NGO named GOACAN. The NGO has written a letter to the Assistant Director of Transport requesting to immediately look into the matter.
GOACAN has sought its intervention to get KTCL Vasco Depot to undertake repairs of Bus No GA-03 X-0260 in the interest of the comfort & safety of consumers using the same. The NGO has addressed a letter to the Assistant Director of Transport Vasco Rajesh B.Naik in this regard.
When Roland Martins of GOACAN informed that after receiving complaints from multiple passengers using the Kadamba bus on the Vasco-Margao-Canacona-Karwar route, GOACAN decided to check the bus and was surprised to see the pathetic condition of the Kadamba Bus No GA-03 X-0260.
Martins revealed that it came to light during his inspection that the back of the bus did not have a glass on one side, and therefore, a Tin Sheet had been put as a replacement.
The Tin Sheet had got loose and kept flapping with the wind and made an irritating sound to control the flapping; cardboard sheets had been used as packing but to no avail.
Furthermore, the luggage rack had broken sometime back, and as a result, a metal rod was protruding. There was cloth tied to it to avoid a passenger cutting his fingers if he grips that metal rod. The condition of the hand rests of two seats were shown as an example of how passengers can hurt themselves.
GOACAN, in its letter, stated, “We are unable to understand as to why the basic repairs have not been done to this bus which is being used on an Inter-State route. Moreover, an annual inspection of this bus is required to be done, which seems to have not been undertaken.”
GOACAN, in its letter, also pointed out that ” the present state of the bus is an example of the lack of supervision from the side of the KTCL Head Office and thereby exposing the passengers especially Persons with Disabilities & Senior Citizens to the possibility of injuries. This amounts to a violation of the Right to Safety of the consumer under the Consumer Protection Act 2019,” said Martins in his letter.
Later, when contacted, Rajesh Naik, Assistant Director of Transport Vasco and asked about this letter, Naik replied that he was busy with some work and hadn’t got any chance to check any letter. He, although assured to look into the matter.
