On Monday we saw the Youth line-up for filling up forms and documents at the Teachers Training Institute in Porvorim for the few vacancies which have been notified by Govt of Goa.
While the vacancies were few thousand were seen in the queue at the service road in Porvorim, giving an indication of how desperate the youth were for jobs.
The desperation of Goan youth is palpable as for a long time now there have been no notifications for recruitment even as the government and Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant say the Goa Staff Selection Commission has been constituted and will advertise jobs.
This alarming statistic raises questions about the efficacy of the government’s efforts in addressing the issue of unemployment. The promises of inclusive development and opportunities for all, as espoused by PM Narendra Modi’s “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas,” seem to be at odds with the ground reality in Goa.
Similarly, the vision of a Swayampurna Goa, as championed by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, appears to be a distant aspiration in light of the prevailing unemployment crisis. It is time the Chief Minister takes a call on the issue simply because not only the people but also the Cabinet Ministers are unhappy and want people to look for alternatives.
The current state of unemployment in Goa has reached a critical level, with thousands of hopeful youth lining up for a mere few vacancies whenever they are advertised.
The situation is such that even PHD students are applying for jobs of peons.
This has left the youth feeling hopeless and uncertain about their future prospects.
The recent scene at the Teachers Training Institute in Porvorim paints a stark picture of the unemployment crisis in Goa. Despite the limited number of vacancies announced by the Government of Goa, the turnout of eager individuals was overwhelming. The sight of thousands of youth queuing up at the service road in Porvorim is a poignant reminder of the pressing need for job opportunities in the state.
The formation of the Goa Staff Selection Commission was anticipated to be a step towards addressing the unemployment issue by advertising job opportunities. However, the lack of significant progress in this regard has only deepened the disillusionment among the people, including Cabinet Ministers who are expressing their discontent and urging the Chief Minister to take decisive action.
It is undeniable that the current situation demands immediate attention and proactive measures from the government. The livelihoods and aspirations of the youth are at stake, and it is imperative for the Chief Minister to prioritize this pressing issue. The need of the hour is a concerted effort to create meaningful employment opportunities and a conducive environment for economic growth in the state.
As the voices of discontent grow louder and the queues of hopeful job seekers continue to lengthen, the urgency of the situation becomes increasingly apparent. The youth of Goa deserve better prospects and opportunities for a secure future. It is time for the government to uphold its commitment to the welfare of its citizens and take concrete steps to alleviate the burden of unemployment.
The plight of the youth in Goa reflects a larger societal challenge that necessitates immediate intervention. The government must act decisively to address the pressing issue of unemployment and provide a ray of hope for the countless individuals who are eagerly seeking opportunities to build their future. The time for action is now.
