MORMUGAO: Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav on Sunday launched the Gomati Foundation, named in memory of his mother, with the aim of expanding educational opportunities for underprivileged children across Mormugao Taluka.
As part of the initiative, Yadav has undertaken the construction of additional classrooms at the Government School in Dabolim, enabling its upgradation from a primary school offering education up to Class V to a secondary school catering to students up to Class X. The upgraded school is scheduled to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on July 28, which also marks Yadav’s birthday.
The foundation has also announced an annual educational assistance programme under which the complete educational expenses of ten students from economically weaker families will be sponsored each year. The beneficiaries will be selected from schools across Mormugao Taluka to ensure deserving students can continue their education without financial constraints.
Speaking at the launch, Yadav said the Gomati Foundation has been established to create meaningful opportunities for children from disadvantaged backgrounds and to ensure that financial hardship does not become a barrier to education. He expressed hope that the initiative would encourage others to contribute towards building a more educated and empowered society.
Yadav has been actively involved in promoting education in the region for several years. Earlier, he sponsored free bus transportation for schoolchildren to improve access to education and has consistently supported the Government School at Dabolim by providing essential infrastructure and facilities.
His efforts have contributed to a significant rise in the school’s enrolment, which has grown from around 40 students to more than 150. The expansion of the school and the launch of the Gomati Foundation are expected to further enhance educational opportunities for students across Mormugao Taluka.
