PANAJI: Governor of Goa, Shri P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, today launched the initiative of providing food to the homeless by handing over the first packet of food to Donald Fernandes, founder of Street Providence.
The Raj Bhavan organized the function in association with Street Providence, an NGO providing food to the homeless persons at 6 Centers being run by the Institution under “Food Bank for the Poor”.
While addressing the gathering, Governor said Raj Bhavan will be providing fresh food for 100 persons once a week, which will be distributed by Street Providence to the homeless poor, a step towards helping the poor people. He also expressed his wish to visit all the villages across the State.
Jyoti Sardesai, Director, Directorate of Food & Drugs Administration, informed that it is a very noble cause which Food Safety and Standard Authority of India is propagating through its initiative of saving food, sharing food under the slogan save food, share food and share joy to satisfy the large percentage of hunger and reduce the hunger crises.
She further said The Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) has started the initiative The Indian Food Sharing Alliance (IFSA), a social initiative by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to help solve India’s food waste and hunger crisis by integrating various partner organizations, Food Recovery Agencies and NGO’s and requested the food business operators, corporates and NGOs to come forward and join this initiative by registering themself with the FDA and on the IFSSAI Portal.
