PANAJI: Minister for Archives and Archeology Subhash Phaldessai today informed that Citizens/NGOs/Associations have been requested to submit their statements related to the destruction of historical or religious sites by Portuguese or Portuguese rule.
“Today, we have advertised in newspapers. We have asked Citizens/NGOs/Associations have been requested to submit their statements related to the destruction of historical or religious sites by Portuguese or Portuguese rule,” said Phaldessai.
He further said that the statements should be submitted to the Director of Archives and Archeology on or before November 31 with adequate information, documents or photographs.
“List of religious/Heritage sites destroyed by the Portuguese is not available with the Archeology Department. However, several historians have published relevant research on this topic which is available in the public domain. Budgetary allocation for Restoration of the temple is 20 Cr for the financial year 2022-23,” he said.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had said all the temples destroyed in the past should be rebuilt while asserting that the BJP government in the state has made budgetary allocation for reinstating temples demolished during the Portuguese rule.
In his Budget speech to the new legislative Assembly, the CM had announced an allocation of Rs 20 crore for rebuilding temples in Goa destroyed during the 451-year Portuguese rule before the state was liberated on December 19, 1961.
