The Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant today announced road-map to double the farmers income by 2022.
The road-map prepared by the Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) speaks about making Goa self-sufficient in agriculture produce.
Addressing a press conference, Sawant informed that the contribution of agriculture to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is less than 5 percent.
This has forced us to be dependent on other States to meet our requirements of agriculture, horticulture, dairy, pottery, etc, he said.
As such, Sawant said that government has decided to promote Integrated Farming for achieving the goal of doubling farmers’ income by 2022. He said government will form Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) each in all 12 talukas, with minimum of 100 farmer members.
Setting up of Rice Clusters Food and Agro processing units, are also in process, he said.
“Marketing of Goan produce like rice under Goa Brand will be encouraged in large scale,” he said.
