PANAJI; Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has ordered strict action against a GHRDC security guard allegedly caught carrying suspected narcotic substances into Colvale Central Jail, saying the person involved will be suspended and terminated.
Reacting to the incident, Sawant said strict vigilance was being maintained at the central jail and made it clear that any breach of security would invite stringent action.
“The person found with ganja will be suspended and terminated,” Sawant said.
The statement followed the detention of Asha Chodankar, a GHRDC security guard, who was allegedly intercepted by IRB personnel at the jail’s frisking point on Tuesday morning.
According to information available, a search of a steel bottle allegedly in her possession resulted in the recovery of around 236 grams of a substance suspected to be ganja and approximately two grams of suspected charas.
A subsequent search of her locker reportedly led to the seizure of three ATM cards, three mobile phones and other articles.
The jail authorities handed over Chodankar and the seized material to Colvale Police. Police conducted a panchanama and registered a case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and the Prison Act.
