The government has been directed by the Bombay High Court in Goa to investigate the complaints made in a road safety petition and “take appropriate action in accordance with law.”
The court was reacting to a public interest lawsuit brought by Moses Pinto, a Margao lawyer, who asked the High Court to step in and order the state administration to take the necessary steps to reduce traffic accidents in the state.
He has also called on the government to enact sensible laws and regulations.
In the petition, the state government and its departments are urged to conduct a thorough evaluation of the road infrastructure.
In order to stop drunk driving incidents, the petitioner has also called for the installation of contemporary traffic enforcement tools like speed cameras and ANPR systems in high-risk areas, a specific emergency response system for traffic accidents that includes trauma care centers at strategic locations, and routine and systematic breathalyzer checks in tourist-heavy areas.

Additionally, the petition claims that the elevated corridor’s development at Porvorim on NH66 has caused extreme traffic, especially along the route between Mall de Goa and Guirim junction.
The petitioner claimed that additional disruptions were brought on by diversions brought on by the operations at Porvorim.
In order to guarantee the availability of prompt response, the PIL asks the government to create trauma treatment centers along key routes and accident-prone locations.
