PANAJI: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has granted two weeks to Dr Medha Salkar and the Goa government to file their replies to a petition challenging the State’s decision to give Dr Salkar additional charge as Director of Health Services.
The petition has been filed by Dr Saleena Naik, who has challenged the government’s July 31 order concerning Dr Salkar’s appointment. Dr Naik has alleged that the decision was not in accordance with the applicable recruitment rules and that the claims of senior eligible officers were overlooked.
Dr Naik has contended that she is the senior-most eligible officer for promotion to the post and that the government bypassed the established promotional process while making the appointment.
She has sought the quashing of the July 31 order and a direction to the State government to appoint her as Director of Health Services. The petition also seeks interim relief against Dr Salkar continuing in the additional charge until the case is decided.
Dr Salkar, who currently serves as Chief Medical Officer, will continue to hold the additional charge as the court awaits replies from her and the State government.
