PANAJI: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) has placed ambient air quality monitoring vans at the locations where Smart City works are being conducted in the state’s capital city after neglecting to take action to contain dust pollution.
This is done ahead of the scheduled inspection of Smart City works by Judges of the High Court of Bombay at Goa today at 5 p.m.
Recall that two public interest lawsuits (PILs) brought by citizens of Panaji to address issues with dust pollution affecting public health and other annoyances brought on by ongoing construction in the city were recently taken up by the High Court.
In order to gather information and keep an eye on the air quality standards in the area where the work is being done, the GSPCB has set up two permanent real-time ambient air quality monitoring vans throughout the city.
The cars are parked at two locations in the city: one is close to the Vivanta by Taj and the other is near the Caculo Mall at St. Inez. These were positioned in the city on March 29th, Thursday, and they will probably stay there until April 1st.
“We propose to hear the matter in further detail on 02.04.2024,” the division bench, which is made up of Justices Mahesh Sonak and Valmiki SA Menezes, said during the March 27 hearing of two public interest litigation (PIL) writ petitions. We plan to visit the location on April 1, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., in order to gain a better understanding of the problem beforehand.
