PANAJI: With the monsoon season approaching, Goa’s Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced a series of proactive measures to protect residents from vector-borne illnesses such as Dengue, Chikungunya, and Malaria.
Rane outlined ongoing efforts including source reduction drives aimed at eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, house-to-house inspections to identify stagnant water, and fever surveys for early detection of infections. The government is also running awareness campaigns in schools and communities to educate people on preventive measures.
Anti-larval treatments and fogging operations are being intensified, alongside the free distribution of guppy fish, a natural method for controlling mosquito populations.
The Minister urged residents to regularly check their premises for water accumulation and to report any fever symptoms to health centers promptly, where free testing and treatment are available. He cautioned that Dengue could be severe and advised vigilance for warning signs such as abdominal pain, vomiting, persistent high fever, low blood pressure, or bleeding.
“Let’s stay alert and work together to keep Goa safe and healthy this monsoon season,” said Rane.
