CANACONA: Amidst the rising temperatures, people in Canacona are advised to avoid going out in open Sun between 11.00 am to 3.00pm and drink as much as oral fluids to beat the ongoing heatwave, and avoid heat-strokes.
In a note, stating these days the temperature is rising and can lead to Heat-Strokes, Canaocna Health Officer Dr. Jose Tavares issued a list of ‘Do’s and Don’t’s’ informing people to take care and be safe.
People are advised to Drink plenty of Oral Fluids, particularly Water, and mostly avoid moving around/out in open sun between 11.0am to 3.0pm. Special care should be taken of Children and Elderly persons. Whenever going out always wear loose fitting and light-colour clothing, carry extra water bottle, wear Caps/Sun-glasses, avoid work in direct heat places, prefer Shadow work areas, Making use of Fan and wherever possible have baths two times a day.
The Signs and Symptoms of Heat Stroke are High body temperature of more than 104°f., Skin becomes Red, Hot and the person gets No Sweating, There is Rapid Strong Pulse rate, a Throbbing Headache, Nausea and Vomiting and the person may loose Consciousness.
There is/are Heat Rash/s and muscle Cramps, the Skin gets Dry, person often Faints, shows signs of altered mental Status, has lowered pressure, might also get Seizures, amidst anciousness and confused state of mind, gets Dizziness and the person may go in Coma Stage.
The Immediate First Aid Measures in any of the symptoms cited above, immediately place the victim in Shadow, make the victim (him/her) Lie down with head low position (Elevate foot end), compel the victim to drink more liquids.
Use the Fan to lower the temperature, loosen his/her Clothing, Never/Do not give paracetamol tablets to the victim. If the victim is unconscious then immediately shift the person in nearby Hospital. Make any bed-sheet/Towel Wet with Tap water and put it around the victim. If available, Put Ice cold Compresses in Axilla,Neck, Groin, over body and Sprinkle water over the body.
If the garden taps easily available then spray water over body till temperature lowers and or any bottle and make fine holes and Sprinkle the water over body. Incase of Cramps, Stiffness, apply firm pressure on cramping Muscles or gently massage over the muscle, Check temperature, keep on Re-assuring the victim, and never get about Hospitalization in an emergency.
The heat-wave warning note assumes significance as according to meteriological reports, the temperatures which were hover around 33-34 degree centigrade but feeling over 42-45 degress centigrade are set to rise futher by 3-4% in the days to come.
