CANACONA: Even as heavy rains lashed past week, the downpour of late Tuesday evening and the Wednesday morning caused flooding in several parts of Canacona.
While the main rivers in the taluka running upto the brim, a few of the rivulets such as Agonda river, Devabhaga, Dumane are over-flowing with water seeping in the residential areas and the Paddyfeilds on these river banks particularly in the upper catchments are inundated with floods.
According to sources, the river Talpona, Galgibaga and Saleri are running just below the danger mark, however, floods entering into the adjoining areas are reported at a few low-lying places along the banks of these rivers.
‘The overnight flooding’s had already brought and left all the unwanted wooden-logs and other materials in our fields, and our recently nurtured nursery is again under the floods’, informed a farmer at Agonda, who had only 2 days ago had put the seedlings for the nursery cultivation.
Some of the roads, especially the low lying one’s are also inundated with floods, making it very difficult to the school going children.
According to the taluka observatory, 165mm of rains has pounded in Canacona since Tuesday midnight, as the seasonal total has crossed 1140.00 mm of rains on Wednesday.
Incidents of some uprooting of trees, and mini-landslides in a minor ways were also reported elsewhere in the taluka.
