New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of the world’s two greatest leaders, praising his leadership, political longevity and contribution to India’s growth.
Speaking in response to a question about whom he considered the world’s top leaders, Trump named Modi alongside Xi Jinping. He highlighted India’s strong economic performance and commended Modi’s approach to international conflicts, noting that the Indian leader has largely stayed away from wars while focusing on national development.
Trump also reflected on India’s political landscape before Modi’s rise, recalling a period when governments changed frequently and prime ministers often had short tenures. He contrasted that era with Modi’s leadership, pointing out that the Indian prime minister has remained in office for more than a decade, providing continuity and stability.
Emphasising Modi’s style of governance, Trump described him as a leader who projects calmness while also being exceptionally determined. He noted that although Modi appears composed, he is a strong and decisive figure who commands respect on the global stage.
The remarks come shortly after the two leaders met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, where Trump once again highlighted their personal rapport. Discussing India’s role in global affairs, he said the country has an important part to play in addressing major international challenges and praised Modi’s influence in shaping that role.
Trump further underscored his confidence in Modi’s leadership, stating that India’s growing importance in world affairs is closely linked to the prime minister’s stewardship. His comments add to a series of public statements in which he has praised Modi’s leadership and India’s expanding global presence.
