Mormugao: Hundreds of Goans from across the State on Monday protested against the land acquisition hearing for the double tracking of the railway line from Castle Rock to Vasco.
Following the protests the Dy Collector, Mormugao, had to call off the hearings of the day.
The protest was led by Goencho Ekvott, Goencho Avaaz and Goyant Kolso Naka and was also attended by the MLA Alina Saldanha, MLA Lexio Reginaldo Lourenco and MLA Churchill Almeao.
Capt Viriato Fernandes of Goencho Avaaz, Olencio Simoes and Abhijit Prabhudesai questioned the deuty collector about the timing of hearing.
“In this COVID19 times is it fair to call the senior citizens for hearing” They asked.
The protestors waned that they would continue the protests for next four days until the hearings are postponed indefinitely.
Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao told reporters that Dy Collector had agreed to postpone the hearings but that was not the case.
Reginald said that hearing during pandemic was not necessary and this was a huge mistake of the government.
