PANAJI: In the suo motu PIL related to illegal constuctions in the State, the Goa governemnt today informed High Court that it is reviewing its order and is expected to come up with a concrete solution.
The High Court of Bombay at Goa postponed the hearing to June 13 after the state government, along with various panchayats and municipal bodies, sought more time to file their compliance reports.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, the Goa government informed the court that it is in the process of reviewing earlier court directions and is working on formulating a concrete and comprehensive response to tackle the issue.
The PIL was initiated by the court in response to the surge in unauthorized constructions across Goa, particularly in environmentally sensitive zones such as the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ), agricultural areas, and within panchayat and municipal limits.
The Court had directed the State government to take immediate action against the illegal constructions including encroachments along the road side, government and communidade land and other no development zones.
Following the Court directions, Directorate of Panchayat and Municipal Administration had directed the local bodies to identify such illegal constructions and take necessary action.
Following the concern raised by some MLAs and citizens, the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant intervened and is currently considering bringing in a legislation to protect “unauthorized” structures; however, government has decided not to give any releif to illegal constructions.
The next hearing is now scheduled for June 13, by which time the court expects detailed compliance and action-taken reports from all concerned authorities.
