PANAJI: IMD has cautioned of possible heatwave conditions in Goa as the max temperature is expected to soar 4 degrees Celsius above average.
“Persistence of these conditions may satisfy the heat wave criteria over the region, and Please note that there is the possibility of marginal heatwave conditions over Goa on 14th March 2022. Maximum temperatures are likely to fall by around 2 degrees from 15th March onwards,” the IMD said.
IMD said that in continuation of previous forecasts, because of advection of warmer temperature in the lower levels of the atmosphere over Goa, and because of the strengthening of easterly winds, on 14th March, the maximum temperature over Goa is likely to remain around 4 degrees Celsius higher than its average value.
On Sunday, Goa recorded a high maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius, a 5.1 degree more elevated than the normal average temperature. In Mormugao, the maximum temperature was 5.3 higher than the normal average temperature.
IMD has advised people to stay hydrated, avoid heat exposure, wear lightweight, light-colored, loose, cotton clothes and cover the head using a cloth, hat, or umbrella.
IMD officials have also advised people to take frequent breaks while working outdoors.
The possible impact of above-average temperature conditions can lead to a moderate health concern for vulnerable people, including infants, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases.
