PANAJI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Goa, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at many places, accompanied by wind speeds of 50–60 km/h, gusting up to 70 km/h, over the next 24 hours.
This warning pertains to both North and South Goa districts.
The adverse weather conditions are attributed to Cyclone Shakti, which is influencing the region’s atmospheric patterns.
Residents are advised to remain indoors, avoid travel during peak rainfall periods, and stay away from flood-prone areas.
Fishermen are cautioned against venturing into the sea due to the anticipated rough conditions.
Local authorities have been mobilized to monitor the situation, clear drainage systems, and assist in evacuations if necessary.
