PANAJI: Former MLA Rohan Khaunte has written to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane expressing his fear of the overcrowding of testing centres and its likely impact on vaccination centres.
Khaunte also has suggested a few practical ways to curb the spread of covid and requested the urgent intervention of the Health Minister.
“The State of Goa registering over 5000 COVID cases is highly alarming for the smallest State in the Country. The exponential surge in Test Positivity Rate to 21.72% as of 7.1.2021 has created fear and anxiety in the overall population,” said Khaunte.
He further said that this has led to frenzy crowding at Testing centre’s which unfortunately double
up as vaccination centres also.
“Such mingling of symptomatic people coming for testing with that of healthy people coming in for vaccination will only cause for fertile grounds of infectious spread. In the above circumstances, it is suggested that Testing Centres need to be isolated from vaccination centres, which in the case of Porvorim can be shifted to more isolated premises like Sanjay School,” he said.
Khaunte has also requested to increase the number of Testing & Vaccination points for which, as regards Porvorim, more venues are readily available.
“This will help in reducing the crowd and induce more people to come in for testing/vaccination without fear of infection due to overcrowding,” he added.
